For over a decade I never spoke of it. In college I was sexually assaulted while blacked out, but was told I gave consent. I never told anyone because, as a guy, it's not something I wanted to get a high five for (having sex but not remembering), so I hid my embarrassment through bad coping mechanisms. Now I travel the country speaking to others about the intersections of alcohol, blackouts and consent in hopes of encouraging others to own their stories and help their friends be brave enough to have the conversations that matter.
