A Joint Statement from CALCASA and the Partnership
The California Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CALCASA) and the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence (the Partnership) are proud to join forces in support of the NO MORE campaign. Both agencies are part of a large national effort to help launch NO MORE, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to continue our partnership through the unveiling of this unifying branding effort. The NO MORE campaign has created a new, over-arching visual symbol to help raise public awareness about sexual assault and domestic violence. Like the AIDS ribbon or the peace sign, we hope this symbol will help support and connect the efforts of domestic violence and sexual assault organizations. The campaign is intended for wide-scale adoption by members of the public, to express their solidarity with us in our efforts to stop domestic violence and sexual assault.”NO MORE is about the importance of working together toward the common goals of ending sexual and domestic violence. Joining together with the Partnership in unveiling this campaign in California, allows us to stand with our sister state coalition in support and solidarity,” said Sandra Henriquez, CALCASA executive director.
CALCASA and the Partnership recognize that the solutions for ending domestic violence and sexual assault have many similarities. Both issues share common risk and protective factors, and many individuals experience both types of violence. According to a 2010 survey (National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey – NISVS) by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), One in 3 women (32.9%) has expe¬rienced physical violence by an intimate partner, and nearly 1 in 10 (9.4%) has been raped by an intimate partner in her lifetime.

“Domestic violence and sexual assault advocates know that our causes are linked,” said Tara Shabazz, thePartnership’s executive director. “The NO MORE campaign offers a national platform for us to explain that victim safety and public safety are one and the same.”

While October is dedicated to Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) and April to Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), CALCASA and the Partnership recognize that sexual assault and domestic violence happen every day. By joining together in support of NO MORE, we affirm our commitment to bringing awareness to these important issues throughout the year.

CALCASA and the Partnership are excited to add our voices to the thousands of people from around the country as they say, “NO MORE—Together we can end domestic violence and sexual assault.”
