MCC Stands with #NOMORE Campaign Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault

Sun Mar 6 2016 - Sat Mar 12 2016, All Day

NO MORE is a domestic violence and sexual assault awareness campaign that focuses on making a difference through knowledge and action,” said Abigail Jaimes-Gomez, operation specialist in the compliance office at MCC.

“To end domestic violence and sexual assault, we must first educate ourselves and others so that we can recognize the signs of abuse, help a friend, speak up, and act as an engaged bystander. Survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault are often burdened with the shame and stigma. The first step in raising awareness is talking about these issues openly.”

NO MORE Week is part of a national campaign put on by the NO MORE Project and features a media campaign spearheaded by actors, politicians, local leaders, and companies ranging from television stations to pharmaceutical companies.

“Domestic violence and sexual assault is an increasing issue in the state of Arizona,” said Jaimes-Gomez. “According to The Arizona Computerized Criminal History (ACCH), from 2001 to 2010, the number of arrests for aggravated domestic violence more than doubled.”

The campuses will be hosting sign campaigns on campuses on Monday, March 7. Students and employees will have the opportunity to complete a sign stating why they are saying #NOMORE.

You can follow the campaign on the MCC Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as following the #NOMORE hashtag to follow the campaign across the nation. For more information on the MCC events, contact the public information office at 928-302-5351.
