1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men experience domestic violence in their lifetimes, but do you know how to recognize and respond to domestic violence as an employer or employee? Participants will receive information about the types of abuse, how to approach employees that may be experiencing domestic violence, creating an environment where employees are comfortable disclosing violence, accessing local resources, how to respond if an employee is a perpetrator of domestic violence, how the cost of domestic violence damages businesses, and tools to create a domestic violence workplace policy.
At the end of this session participants will be able to:
1. Define and understand the types of domestic violence, why people stay in abusive relationships, and who is most likely to experience abuse.
2. Recognize signs and respond to disclosures of domestic abuse concerning employees or coworkers.
3. Access the tools to create workplace policies and create environments that assist employees experiencing domestic violence and limit the company’s liability.
