Take Back The Night

Take Back The Night

Sat Oct 3 2015, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Take Back The Night is a word-wide event that provides a voice to victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence. For over 20 years, Take Back The Night DuPage has successfully brought the Chicagoland Community together to stand up and speak out. Community leaders and partners pool their services and resources. One way we raise awareness is through visual art exhibits. The Silent Witnesses display uses wooden figures to tell the tragic stories of dozens of men, women and children who have been lost to violence throughout DuPage County. And the Clothes Line Project displays dozens of T-shirts decorated by survivors from our community. Each year, a keynote speaker delivers an emotional story of pain and perseverance, followed by a Victim Speak Out, where survivors in the audience are invited to share their own stories. Community members then march through the streets of downtown Naperville, returning back to Central Park for a closing community gathering.

This year’s Keynote Speaker is Erin Merryn, founder of Erin’s Law, advocate for childhood sexual abuse prevention. This month she was the featured survivor for TLC’s Breaking The Silence, a documentary educating on childhood sexual abuse. You can watch the documentary by visiting TLC.com

Each year this event is hosted by EVA Alliance, standing for Empowering Victims and Activists, EVA is a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading awareness through events on the issues surrounding child abuse, domestic violence and sexual violence.
