Get ready for the Women Race!
The Women’s Coalition of St. Croix’s (WCSC) 31st annual Women Race will be held in Christiansted on Sunday, June 7th. The theme for this year’s peace race is “NO MORE Silence.” WCSC is an Ally in the national NO MORE campaign to raise awareness on the issues of domestic and sexual violence and to support the end of violence against women and girls.
Domestic violence and sexual assault thrive in silence. Continuous and open dialogue educates individuals and dispels societal and cultural myths that promote power and control dynamics, victim blaming/shaming and other oppressive actions. We must end the silence that surrounds domestic abuse and rape and promote healthy relationships to effectively create safe local and global communities.
The Women Race is a great way for everyone to get together to support positive change and promote nonviolence while enjoying healthy activity. Only women and girls can enter the Women Race, but fun is had by all at this festive event. Men and boys join families and friends to cheer on the women and girls as they run, jog, and walk through the streets of downtown Christiansted.
Pre-registration begins on May 18th at the following locations:
- WCSC’s Crisis Center – 45 Fisher Street, Christiansted
- WCSC’s Closet To Closet Thrift Store – 15 Peter’s Rest
- Stamina Sports – Estate Golden Rock
In addition, special registration will be held on two Saturdays in May, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, at these locations:
- May 23rd – Cost-U-Less, Kmart – Sunny Isle Shopping Center, Kmart – Sunshine Mall
- May 30th – Cost-U-Less, Kmart – Sunny Isle Shopping Center, Kmart – Sunshine Mall
The pre-registration entry fee is $15.00, and includes a commemorative t-shirt. Registration on race day is $20.00. Girls aged 13 and under can register for $1.00, t-shirt not included.
Awards will be presented to overall winners and top age-group finishers. Schools, organizations and businesses may enter “teams” in the Women Race. Teams who pre-register will be recognized at the race Start/Finish line, and will receive special certificates. The fastest team (minimum of five members) will receive a trophy. A $300 gift certificate and the Mary Mingus Trophy will be awarded to the school with the most participants (minimum of 25 members).
