The PTSD I have from watching my step-father attempt to murder my mama in front of me, and having to physically drag him off of her, haunts me every day. I can still see knives being stabbed in my bedroom door as a child and hiding in a corner with my siblings. I remember being trained to lie to DCFS, rehearsing what to say so that we don't get taken away from our mama.
At 18 I went through an abusive relationship of my own, thinking that it could never happen to me. He stole my ID and money from me, abandoned me in public several times, and eventually beat me in the back of the head.
I am so glad I got away. I'm now in school to be a social worker and working with a great non-profit that assists survivors of domestic violence, @anafielhouse. I say #nomore. I say never again. Anna
